The R&D/Food Scientist answers to the Plant Manager and is responsible for the research and development of new blends and customer matches, developing labeling information, assuring products are able to be produced under the plants current production, developing Bill Of Materials for new blends and customer matches, ensuring that blends are matched and blended to the highest quality, and inspecting the plant monthly for GMP and SQF standards.
Research & Development: The R&D/Food Scientist will use customer samples or requests to develop new blends and matches. He will tweak to the customer’s particular designs. He will also continue to develop new products that will be original for the company.
Developing Label Information: The R&D/Food Scientist will determine a blend’s weight in particular packaging. He will create ingredient statements and nutritional information according to the weights determined.
Assure Products Can Be Produced: The R&D/Food Scientist will determine that any products created can be produced in the plant under current HAACP and GMP Policies. He will also determine if any new raw materials for a new blend will be available in reasonable quantities.
Develop Recipes: The R&D/Food Scientist will create a Bill of Materials for all new blends and input the information into AccPac along with the current prices for any new raw materials.
Ensuring Blends are Matched: The R&D/Food Scientist will verify that each blend matches the retention sample before the Blender can remove the blend from the blender. He will also note whether the blend has been produced to the highest quality. Any concerns will be immediately addressed with the Plant Manager and/or Plant Supervisor.
Inspecting Plant: The R&D/Food Scientist with the Lab Assistant will, under the direction of the Plant Manager, do a monthly audit of the plant to find areas where HAACP, GMP, or SQF policies have not been adhered to correctly. A Food Processing Inspection Report will be prepared and delivered to the Plant Manager for corrective actions.
